Xiaoyoukeng 小油坑

Xiaoyoukeng is a post-volcanic geological
landscape area located in the northwestern foothills of Qixing Mountain. The
scenic trail can be reached by turning right at the Xiaoguanyin stop on Yangjin
Highway. It is approximately 805 meters above sea level and is famed for the
fumaroles, sulfur crystals, hot springs and spectacular “landslide terrain”
formed by post-volcanic activity. In addition to Xiaoyoukeng, the viewing
platform here also offers views of the volcanic cones of Zhuzi Mountain, Datun
Mountain, Qixing Mountain and Xiaoguanyin Mountain, as well as views of the
Jinshan coastline and a parking lot. Visitors who enjoy flora are encouraged to
spend a few minutes walking the Arrow Bamboo Trail and enjoy the sight of the
arrow bamboo, awn and other plants that flourish in volcanic areas. The trail
next to the Xiaoyoukeng parking lot offers access to Qixing Mountain, from
which it takes about an hour to reach the summit. At 1,120 meters above sea
level, it is the highest mountain in Taipei City. The path down from the East
Peak path leads to Qixing Park, Menghuan Pond and Lengshuikeng, offering a
bird's-eye view of Shamao Mountain and downtown Taipei. Visitors can also reach
the nursery, visitor center, Yangmingshan Second Parking Lot and Yangmingshan
260 bus terminus.

Erziping 二子坪

Erziping is a
volcanic depression located on the west side of Yangmingshan National Park
between the main peak of Datun Mountain and Erzi Mountain. It boasts a flat
road, wide open terrain and three ponds.
Due to its location
on the western, leeward side of Datun Mountain, Erziping is often shrouded in
cloud which creates spectacular landscape views. There is a lush forest and a
variety of vegetation due to the temperate weather in between sub-tropical and
temperate zones. The edge of the forest is composed mainly of red nanmu, black
pine and Formosan gum, making the area a deep, quiet valley.

Lengshuikeng 冷水坑

Menghuan Pond is
located in the southeast foothills of Qixing Mountain at an elevation of
approximately 740 meters above sea level. The highest temperature in summer is
about 30 degrees Celsius, making it a popular destination for Taipei residents
trying to escape from the summer heat.

Zhuzihu Ponlai Rice
Foundation Seed Field Office and Warehouse in Shichisei District of Taihoku
Prefecture was established on March 8, 1928 for the farming management of
Ponlai rice as the center for the seed bank, distribution and delivery of
Ponlai rice and related business.
National Government
The office was
formally closed in 1973 and taken over by the military in 1975. The building
was used as a venue to teach and train officials from the Military Police under
the Ministry of National Defense and it was renamed the "Military Police
Plum Lotus Study Center.”
In 2009, Taipei City
Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs declared the Zhuzihu Ponlai Rice
Foundation Seed Field a historic building, based on the fact that the Zhuzihu
Ponlai Rice Foundation Seed Field Office played an important role in the
production of Ponlai rice and was the starting point for Taiwan Ponlai Rice.
The Park Headquarters
designed the Zhuzihu Ponlai Rice Foundation Seed Field Story House in 2014,
with the aim to developing the historic building as a site focused on showcasing
the history of local industry and promoting environmental education. It was
opened to the public at the end of 2015.

Zhuzihu Calla Lily Field 竹子湖海芋畑

Zhuzihu is a valley
between Datun Mountain and Qixing Mountain in Yangmingshan National Park and administrative
district it is in Hutian Borough in Taipei’s Beitou District. The elevation is
670 meters and the climate is rainy and cool. The soil is fertile, and the area
has an abundance of mountain springs; it is one of the few tourist agriculture
areas on Yangmingshan and is a well-known travel destination in north Taiwan.
Zhuzihu was once a
barrier lake formed by a volcanic eruption, but the water has long since
receded. A large area of Moso bamboo and Arrow bamboo was once planted here and
it swayed in the breeze like the waves on the surface of a lake, hence the name
“Bamboo Lake” (Zhuzihu in Chinese). Through the joint efforts of local flower
farmers, Beitou Farmers Association, Taipei City Farmers Association and Taipei
City Government over many years, it has developed into the back garden of
Greater Taipei.
Calla lilies bloom
February to May, attracting a large number of every day of the week whether a
holiday or not. Locals and the city government hold the Zhuzihu Calla Lily
Festival every year during blooming season.

Longfenggu 龍鳳谷

and culture exhibition, courtyard show room and one other venue. Longfenggu
Visitor Center is located at the southwest side of Yangmingshan National Park.
It is at the junction of Quanyuan Road and Xingyi Road and is diagonally across
the road from Dunxu Industrial and Commercial Vocational School. An
ecologically rich mountaintop park is located next to the center.

Sulfur Valley 硫黄谷

Sulfur Valley
Geothermal Scenic Area is located in the southern foothills of Shibafen
Mountain (Zhongzheng Mountain) in the Datun Volcano Group on the south side of
Quanyuan Road and north of Shitan Mountain and Dapaoyan and west of Dunxu High
School on Xingyi Road; Xingyi Creek flows through, the upper reaches of Beitou
Huanggang Creek. The valley floor is about 1 kilometer in length long and
80-200 meters wide. It has numerous fumaroles and various manmade geothermal
springs; white vapor and steam rise up into the air from the valley creating a
magnificent sight.
